About Us

The Wee Swap is a volunteer-led community initiative, ran by Meg and Anna from our kitchen tables. What started as a one-off event in 2024 has sparked a growing mini-movement of wee swappers, all sharing gently-used children’s clothes, toys, books, and other items.

We understand how quickly little ones grow and how tricky it can be to keep up! That’s why we organise free, family-friendly events where swapping is simple, fun, and community-focused.

Children are at the heart of everything we do. Each event includes creative activities to ensure kids have a fun first swapping experience, learning about giving back, sharing, and caring for their community. By passing on cherished items and receiving “new-to-them” ones, children discover the joy of giving items a second life, while families celebrate the value in every pre-loved item.

How It Works

Who We Are

Meg

Meg Magill is the founder of The Wee Swap. With a lifelong love for second-hand shopping and a passion for sustainability, Meg was inspired to launch the initiative after noticing a lack of similar events for kids, despite how fast they grow and how costly it is to keep up.

Through The Wee Swap, she aims to ease the financial strain on families while promoting a circular economy and normalising reuse and repair from an early age. A graduate of Ulster University's one-off 25@25 Leadership programme, Meg first developed the idea during a sustainability session, determined to find a solution that was both practical and community-focused.

Meg’s background is in the arts and event management, which is why The Wee Swap has a big focus on making the event as engaging as possible for children, ensuring they develop a love and appreciation for second-hand items from an early age through creative activities and fun-based learning.

Based in East Belfast, Meg is deeply aware of the challenges local communities are facing and she believes The Wee Swap can offer both relief and empowerment by turning hand-me-downs into a celebration of shared resources and care.

Anna

Anna Leckey is the Artistic Director of Three’s Theatre Company and a passionate supporter of The Wee Swap. She attended the very first event while pregnant with her daughter and found it invaluable as a first-time mum, picking up quality baby clothes, essentials, and a pregnancy pillow that really helped during the last few months with a bump!

Now, Anna is thrilled to be joining forces with founder Meg Magill to bring a creative twist to future Wee Swaps. Through her work with Three’s Theatre Company, she’s helping to weave playful arts engagement and storytelling into the event, making the experience more magical and meaningful for children.

For Anna, The Wee Swap isn’t just about saving money - it’s about community, kindness, and showing kids that sharing and reusing can be something joyful. She’s proud to support an initiative that brings people together while promoting sustainability in such a fun and practical way.
